From the age of 21 (minimum age) you have the additional choice of the Direct Access (DAS) full licence course.  You can still however opt to complete either the A1 or A2 full licence courses (see Courses/17-20).  To obtain a full motorcycle licence you will need to have a provisional motorcycle licence (category A), a valid CBT certificate (see courses/16) and a valid motorcycle theory test (see training resources).

Each full licence motorcycle course will involve a number of training days relating to your ability followed by a practical test with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

Direct Access Motorcycle Licence

This course is completed on 500cc motorcycles and leads to a full motorcycle licence.  You must be 21 years old or above to complete this course.  On successfully completing your Direct Access practical test with the Driving Standards Agency you will obtain a full motorcycle licence.  You will then be able to ride any bike, of any size, with no restriction.

As this is a full licence you do not need to display L plates, you can carry passengers and can ride on the motorway.

SUREPASS RECOMMENDS:

As you may be purchasing a motorcycle far larger than the 500cc machine you learnt on it may be wise to opt for a Surepass Advanced course with our team of qualified advanced instructors.  This course can be based on half or full days using your own motorcycle and will help you get used to your own motorcycle and build your confidence.  This training is particularly individual and therefore is completed on a one-to-one basis only.
